If you want the best plastic reels available you may have to order them directly from Austria, the Bonum reels.

These are widely aknowledged as the "RRs" without the luxury tint and all boxes include a "environment plugin "Climatic" control system" that preserves the film.

    Reel quality is unique.

I just ordered mine from Juilus Esher in Austria. Drawback: Minimum order is 24 pcs.

Thanks for the reply.... is anyone stateside selling these Bonum reels? I want quality and I'm tired of dealing with junk. However, I don't envison myself needing 24 reels and could use some in the near future.

Yeah, most of today's reels are pretty pathetic. I'm up for locating a U.S. distributor for the Austrian ones. There's gotta be some alternative to the c-r-a-p-p-y kind out now.

I've had it with s-h-i-t-t-y plastic Super8 reels. I can't tell you how tired I am of using super8 reels that are unstable or are not wide enough for film to be loaded onto them. I just ordered about $40 worth of 200 and 400 foot reels from Taylor Reel Corp (I will be contacting them about this) that are completely unusable for me. The film rubs along the sides of the reel as it is loaded. This is completely inadequate. How I wish I could get a pile of the hard plastic Kodak reels that were produced in the seventies. Those things are rock solid, but I unfortunately only have a few of them. Can someone provide me with the name of a company that supplies SOLID plastic 200 and 400 foot reels? Sometimes this format is really frustrating... dealing with the d-a-m-n-e-d jitter from the Yellow Father is bad enough. Any help appreciated!

    Paul,

Please don't use profanity in the forum. Thanks.

I used to get some nice metal reels and cans from Film & Video Services in Minneapolis, but last I checked they only have plastic available. I haven't ordered any of their plastic S8 reels, but I have been pleased with the 16mm reels and cans I bought from them. Check the Supplies & Services page on the main site.

If you want to search for BONUM reels in the USA you may visit ordinary Photo & possibly S8 dealers. Bonum also manufactures frames etc for slides so there might be possible to find a dealer in the US.

You may also contact "Norbert Wessely" [email protected] by mail and as if he knows about any US dealers.

this situation is starting to get, well, surreal. may i suggest we simply leave mike, his minors and their parents alone and do our business at http://8mm.filmshooting.com/ instead? i always loved this board before, but to be perfectly honest i don't feel comfortable here anymore. sorry mike, but you just lost one of your regulars...

Okay, this is addressed to Mattias but, since Elvis has presumably left the building, I'm not sure if you will even see it!

Last I looked, Andreas also had a language "filter" so going to his forum won't really accomplish... well, what ever it is that you are disatisfied with.

I do find it odd that the filter for this forum will interpret s-h-o-o-t-e-r-s as s******* and that it sees the word f-r-e-a-k-i-n-g as ******** but who cares? I don't see it as some "free speech" issue. I simply recognize that the filter is a little screwy. Funny, even. You seem intelligent enough to make your points, regardless of the minor impositions placed on you by the filter so what gives? This is Mike's front porch and if he doesn't want people to use foul language while we shoot the breeze about our hobby I don't really see an issue. Is it an issue with you? Do you NEED to use expletives to communicate on this board? I think your lexicon is bigger than that. But, again, if you're really serious about leaving then I guess you aren't reading this so I'm wasting my time.
